Thought provoking

It's a sad commentary that such circumstances still exist in this day & age among groups - ie Northern European & offshoots - that have convinced us that women have an equal place in society. It's a sadder commentary that women believe this disinformation spread by the powers that be. This book rips the cover off and exposes the true, ugly underside of reality. It is time we all stop deluding ourselves.

Passable but on the dirty side.

The cover art is different from how it is pictured, which disappoints. Moreover, it is dirty and I had to wipe it down with a few napkins. Needless to say, they came away grey. Also, the pages look very worn. it has been used but more than once! I know because the warehouse did not even bother to get rid of the library catalogue stuck on the first page. So buy this product if one is trying to save, however know that there are better and cleaner used editions out there.

I have had this book for a long time (since before Amazon existed) and keep referring back to it. I also pass on information about the book to anyone who comments on the unfairness of the so-called justice meated out to women. I believe Eve Was Framed is a book dealing with jurisprudence that even the lay person can undertstand. I recommend it frequently.

Although Ellen Levine enjoys reading and writing fiction, most of her books for young readershave been nonfiction. “Writing nonfiction lets me in behind the scenes of the story. I enjoylearning new things and meeting new people, even if they lived 200 years ago.”

“Real heroes,” Levine says, “aren't necessarily on TV or in the news. They can be ordinarypeople who are willing to take risks for causes they believe in. Nonfiction offers a way tointroduce young readers to real people who have shown tremendous courage, even when facedwith great danger. All of us have the potential. And one doesn't have to be a grown-up,” sheadds.

When she's not writing, Levine likes to share the excitement of research and the importance ofaccuracy with young readers. “Many young people think research is dull; you go to anencyclopedia, copy information, give it a title, and call it a report.” Using her books asexamples, Ellen explains how to get other, more interesting information. “I may not mention theexact words, but I talk to young people about primary and secondary sources. If I'm speakingwith third graders, I ask them, 'Where would I go if I wanted to find out what it's like to be athird grader?' Most will say, 'Read a book.' But when they say, 'Ask a third grader,' I knowthey've understood what I mean by a primary source of inspiration.”

While doing research in Wyoming for Ready, Aim, Fire!, her biography of Annie Oakley,she got to hold the gun Ms. Oakley is believed to have shot in the presence of the Queen ofEngland. “It gave me such a strong feeling about this person,” she says. “That's part of research,too.”

Ellen Levine is the author of many acclaimed books, both fiction and nonfiction. An excellent source of UGRR info for children and adults!

As the director of an Underground Railroad museum, I am always looking for clear, concise materials for the public to use. This book is being added to our new education program, for use in elementary schools in our area. The facts are presented in an easy-to-read fashion, and anyone, adult or child, is able to pick up valuable information without being threatened by the reading level of the book. The text is not condescending in any fashion, yet moves easily enough for a 5-year-old child to sit through a reading of the entire book and ask questions provoked by the material being presented. I would recommend "If You Traveled the Underground Railroad" to anyone interested in giving children something of substance to read. We sell these books in our museum and cannot keep the supply high enough to meet the demand!

In the book, If You traveled on the Underground Railroad, it tells you how fugitives got the Underground Railroad started and what they did on the way. One question was,"Why did they call it the Underground Railroad?" "A man named Tice Davids was running from his owner that lived in Kentucky. Davids swam across a river to get to a small town in Ohio. The owner was hot on his trail. Davids suddenly disappeared whn he went around a turn. The owner searched everywhere he could have been, but he couldn't find him. He gave up and went home. When he got back, he told his other family members that he "must've went on an Underground Railroad!" The book tells you what happened if the slaves and conductors were caught. About the Author

Argang Ghadiri completed his studies of Business Administration in the master's programme of the Mercator School of Management (University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany) and the Aalto School of Economics (Aalto University, Finland) and gained his Bachelor degree at the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (Germany) and FHS St. Gallen University of Applied Sciences (Switzerland). In addition to his scientific work as a tutor and scientific assistant he gained practical experience in consulting and auditing firms. He is currently collaborating with Professor Theo Peters as research associate at the department of Business Administration in Sankt Augustin.

Andy Habermacher started his career in linguistics and language training before founding his own company focusing on communication and soft skills to executives. He qualified as Certified Master Coach in 2008 and followed this with studies on neuroscience as applied to coaching through Dr. Srinivasan Pillay and the NeuroBusiness Group. His business now focuses on neuroscience applications for business and leadership development. In 2011 he published “The Fox Factor” which takes us into the unconscious processes of how we are influenced by status and personality.

Prof. Dr. Theo Peters studied Business Administration at the Rheinisch-Westfälische University in Aachen (Germany) and subsequently Economics at the University of Cologne where he also completed his doctoral studies. Before taking on his position at Bonn- Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences he worked as a business consultant in organisational and personnel development. In addition to his lecturing and research activities at numerous universities Prof. Theo Peters gives seminars and presentations on current business administration themes.

This is very informative but very technical, lots of medical/technical research involved. Print is so tiny like a Bible it is difficult to read, and I have perfect vision.

This book provides an overview to how neuroscience is being applied to the discipline of leadership. What is most useful is its incorporation of the Klaus Grawe's amazing work in neuropsychotherapy. The book appears to have been hastily assembled. It would be great if the authors issued a new edition with case examples and better editing.

The book "Looking for a Mr. Kim in Seoul" is a welcome addition to the growing list of English language books on Korean culture. As a collection of Korean proverbs, it is an unique contribution to our understanding of Korean ethos and psyche. There may be similar publications in Korean but this is the first in English that I have come across. The selection and coverage of Korean "expressions" are comprehensive for a relatively small book. I am impressed by the number and the variety of topics that the authors have collected. The English translations are incisive and, above all, very readable. The extended commentaries, including some etymological notes on obscure words, are readily understandable and enjoyable even for readers with little previous knowledge of Korean culture. A job well done. This book is helpful for students of Korean culture, history, language and ethnography, from the high school level on up. It is an enjoyable introduction to aspects of Korean history and recent politics as well as various customs and rituals. It will make an excellent supplementary reading for students in senior high schools and colleges studying non-Western culture and history. About the Author
SANG-HUN CHOE was a member of the Associated Press team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for coverage of the Korean War’s No Gun Ri incident. He is currently the Korea correspondent for the International Herald Tribune. Chris CHRISTOPHER was the bureau chief in Korea for the Associated Press from 1999-2005. He is currently the AP’s bureau chief in Turkey. He graduated from Yale University.

Buy it and hold on to it!

Man oh man is this book hard to find. If you have the chance to pick it up, buy it and don't think twice. I have no clue why it is so rare but I know that Amazon is the only major online retailer that I can find it on. Moving on.

This book has much to laugh about. It ties in language, culture, and storytelling. You might read this book cover-to-cover and only take away a few memorable stories. I can guarantee you that some Koreans won;t even know the etymology of some of their own words/phrases but you sure as hell well.

It's endearing, funny, and entertaining. It's not exactly appropriate for language study as many of the proverbs and idioms don't exactly make their way into everyday conversation but the history behind these expressions will make you smile if nothing else.

The authors know what they are talking about and are not afraid to share some quirky information with you. Well done!

This book will make smile, laugh and think. It has a great many aphorism, proverbs, sayings that shows the true nature of both the traditional and the modern Korean people. One can smile in recognition of the truth of the sayings, laugh out loud at the earthy diction, and ponder over the similarity of the human condition. Well written book on a fascinating subject.

About the Author
Kenji Tokitsu was born in Japan and began studying martial arts when he was a child. He has taught karate in Paris since 1971. In 1984, he founded the Shaolin-mon school, where he teaches a synthesis of the original combat arts of Japan and China. In 2001, he established the Tokitsu-ryu Academy (www.tokitsu.com) to teach and promote his method. Tokitsu also holds doctorates in sociology and in Japanese language and civilization.

Outstanding Study of Musashi

This is easily one of the best english studies of Musashi. Together with William Scott Wilson's "The Lone Samurai: The Life of Miyamoto Musashi", anyone could conduct a detailed study into the fascinating life, art, fighting method, and unique philosophy of this eccentric genius and in the process, walk away with a decent quality understanding of the history making events that occurred around the battle of Sekigahara and the siege of Osaka castle.

When I followed Musashi's travels in Japan, these were the two books I used to map my journey, and the understanding I was able to develop proved priceless as I traveled the old paths and visited villages, temples, castles, mansions, battlefields, and other locations largely forgotten. This book includes a very useful chronology at the beginning.

One thing I like about this book in particular is the inclusion of color plates of his art and calligraphy, of which he was a master of both. His art is accomplished using an economy of strokes to achieve an effect. He is also known to have held his brush like a sword rather than grasping it in the traditional style. Next to one of Musashi's Daruma works, the author states:

"We can follow every movement of Musashi's hand as he brought the gray line from center left up to the right, turned the brush swiftly at the shoulder and then pulled the line rapidly downward."

This is a very satisfying book that should please any Musashi fan, or that is certain to make a fan out of anyone who is unfamiliar with this incredible man. I can't recommend it enough.

Ultimate Book on Musashi

The author has done an amazing (and detailed) job in unraveling Musashi's life, duels, and contribution to martial arts, from all of the myth and uncertainty of this enigmatic warrior.

The book covers Musashi's origins, his life as a warrior and an artist, and his impact on the evolution of swordsmanship and the modern martial art of kendo. The author also provides a complete analysis of Musashi's Book of Five Rings, as well as the legacy of his students and the impact that Musashi's work had on contemporary kendo masters.

This book is a must-read for anyone studying swordsmanship or martial arts.
