Hitchens writes astutely about post-9/11 patriotism and war and about why history is no longer taught in American schools. But this daring political analyst is also passionate about literature and offers discerning interpretations of Proust, Huxley, and Bellow. And he even shares glimpses of his less toxic self, reading Kipling to Borges in Buenos Aires, and driving across southern Illinois in a red Corvette looking for sites commemorating Abraham Lincoln. I highly recommend.

read it, though if you heard Hitchens talk whether in debate, forum or his thoughts, this portrays his way of thinking in depth not by going into his thought process but through his written thoughts on these subjects. I highly recommend.

Hard-hitting Hitchens

Christopher Hitchens was the most articulate and hard-hitting investigative reporter, essayist, and writer of our time. It is too bad that he died at age 62, for we could have used his insights and savvy for many years to come. This collection of essays, some of them now outdated by the passing years, are nevertheless educational and eye-opening about many of the world's nagging problems.
