Beautiful book.

I'm a big fan of Victor Ambrus and I'm happy to have this book in my collection. As other reviewers have said, this is not an instruction book for beginners. Every page includes examples of Victor's work (mostly nudes) accompanied by the artist's notes. Directed toward the more experienced artist, Mr. Ambrus explains what he tried to achieve with each sketch. I found his insights on the use of light/dark, detail, shading, foreshortening, etc. extremely helpful as I try to improve my skills in rendering human figures.
I should mention that the book I received was not the one pictured (with the black over blue cover). It is an over-sized, hard cover book with several sample sketches on the cover.
I would definitely recommend this book to artists looking to learn from the work of this amazing artist.

Titled "How to Draw" but NOT a 'How to"

This book is basically just a collection of this man's drawings, with little comments about what materials he used and what was difficult for him. Since I'm trying to learn to draw, it was very disappointing since there is essentially no instruction. He also uses words without defining them, like foreshortening, etc. Definitely not an instructional book.

I love Ambrus's work. The human figures in his archaeological illustrations are very lively. As an artist myself this gives me an insight in how to draw more compelling figures in an illustration.
