Alliances: Book One
Spunky commander Berit Turner is known for two things: his huge libido and his lack of a filter—he says what he thinks. Berit sets his mind on being part of a mission to Ligador to make sure the planet is habitable for humans. He’s ecstatic when his team is assigned to the task force. A delegation of Nadisc, a humanoid alien race, accompanies them, and passion ignites between Berit and their commanding officer, Tom. But Berit is determined that Tom is just another notch on his bedpost, as he doesn’t do relationships.
The excursion to Ligador goes wrong from the beginning, when they discover Ligador has been established as a breeding station by their worst enemy: the Tash’Ba. Dinosaur-like creatures become the team’s worst nightmare, and staying alive is going to take everything they’ve got… and then some.

2015 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention
By Elisa
"This is the setup for what seems to be a good series.
The Tashin planet and its queen need Earth for the queen to adequately reproduce the Tash'Ba, its creatures. They are an insectoid/reptilian species who are much more advanced than the Earth. After an initial contact 149 years prior, where the Tash'Ba offer technology in exchange for room on Earth - the Tash'Ba's are rejected.
The Tash'Ba decide to create Breeding Planets where they will genetically create species that will kill for them. The Tash'Ba control them through a genetic code that they can destroy on command, and at the right time, so they can get rid of these genetically altered species once they've conquered a planet for them.
Unknowing any of this - Commander Berit Turner leads an exploration shuttle to a newly discovered planet: Ligador. Turner is joined by a group of Nadisc - (Tom, Niyara, and Xevon) another humanoid species who is fighting the Tash'Ba . Even though their sensors do not detect the danger, once on Ligador they are attacked by dinosaur-like creatures killing most of the crew and one of the Nadisc. Turner and his best friend, Carson return to the ship along with the two surviving Nadiscs, Tom, and Niyara. They have survived a trap set up by the Tash'Ba and discovered a Breeding Station.
As it turns out, Turner is gay and he has been declared by Tom as his ""mate for life."" The Nadiscs only mate for life and have many rituals to this effect. Turner succumbs to Tom's advances which not only includes very graphic details - the Nadiscs use their tale in the sexual act - but Turner allows Tom to bite him in the neck - masking them an official couple. Carson becomes Niyara's mate for life - at one point there's an exchange between Carson and Turner about having a tail inserted in their anus.
When Turner reports to Admiral Baker - the fleet is alerted. A delegation of Nadiscs arrives and the Tash'Ba plot is shared with the Alliance that rules Earth. We then discover that Tom is Nadisc royalty and he has recently lost his mother, the queen, on a mission to get pictures of the Tash'Ba queen on planet Tashin.
The Nadisc share their intelligence with the Alliance and Turner must return to Ligador to find the Tash'Ba control unit and use their genetic destroyer to destroy all the animals on this breeding planet. Turner is helped by the Nadisc in this task, and also by Fleur, a Ligador native creature who can destroy some of these monsters (elgoth, ram, peron, and mandrox).
The book ends with the knowledge that there are 30 more breeding planets near Earth and they all need to be destroyed also.
The book is narrated from Turner's first person point of view. There is strong sexual content - but Turner is kind of hilarious and he spends more time fighting his impulses that fighting the monstrous creatures. The characters are very alive and I thought this was a good setting for the series to come. Unlike many other Sci-Fi writers, Mr. Kat does not assume you know anything about what's going on in the year 2247, so he explains himself. I am inclined to read the next book in the series.
Unless you object to strong gay sexual content - this is a great read."
Interesting world, and inter-species mating. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

A Wonderful Romance Action Adventure!
By Melanie Marshall
A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words.com review (A Paul B Review)
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
When a first contact mission led by Berit Turner goes horribly wrong, he turns to Tom the Nasdic for comfort. They must return to the scene of the disaster to prevent a future alien takeover of Earth.
Berit Turner is known for two things– his ability to make first contact with new planets and being the playboy of the galaxy. When his team arrives at the planet Ligador, nothing would indicate that this would be changing. Ligador is a peaceful earth like planet with lush forests, oceans and no known advanced civilization on the planet surface. His team’s mission is simple. Collect plant and soil samples and search for intelligent life.
Tom is a Nasdic warrior. His race is know for their fighting skills but also their insatiable sexual appetites. His people, along with Earth have faced the Tash’Ba for several years. Upon meeting Berit, Tom (the name he gives to humans as his Nasdic name is unpronounceable for them) decides that he is his mate. Berit is of the opinion that a night or two of fun with the sexy alien would be quite enjoyable but a full time commitment is not in the cards.
When Berit takes his team along with Tom and his crew to the Ligador surface, things become FUBAR rather quickly. Breaking up into two teams that explore plus a third team to watch the spacecraft, they soon realize that the sensor readings on the planet are horribly wrong and the planet is actually being used by the Tash”Ba as a breeding stations for monsters that they use to destroy the population of planets they plan on invading. Their next target planet from Nasdic intelligence says it is Earth. After losing most of his crew, Berit and Tom along with two others return to the main spaceship to recover and mourn the death of the colleagues. While recovering, Berit comes to the realization that maybe his existence is a lonely one without someone to share it with and agrees to mate with Tom. The Alliance decide that the breeding station on Ligador must be destroyed and Berit, Tom and their friends Connor and Ni must once again go to the surface and battle these genetically modified creatures. Will the quartet survive a second trip t the surface?
I really enjoyed this romance action adventure start of this new series. It had me thinking of a cross between Star Trek (first contact, science missions), Star Trek:TNG (the Tash”Ba have a lot of similarities to the Borg without being an outright copy of them) and Jurassic Park series (with the genetically modified creatures running amok on Ligador). The pairing of two alpha males has enough spark to make their pairing interesting. Neither wants to back down when they are on the surface and puts them both in danger at times. The character that steals the later portions of the book is the Ligador native (or is she) Fleur. I look forward to see where the author will take this series.
The cover art by Anne Cain shows are two heroes in the foreground with the Ligaorian landscape below. Berit is facing toward the audience with Tom having his back to it. It’s a nice cover for the book.

Breeding Stations
By Nikyta
Berit isn’t the usual type of commander, he has absolutely no filter and constantly gets himself into trouble but that doesn’t stop him from being a damn good commander. When he’s part of a mission tasked with determining if a planet is habitable, he’s forced to work with a delegation of Nadisc who’s commanding officer, Tom, has Berit tied up in all types of knots. When their mission goes horribly wrong, will they be able to survive the danger they’ve unintentionally walked in or will their newfound relationship end before it even begins?
Holy cow! I was not expecting this story when I started it! I won’t deny that I’m an avid fan of Chris T. Kat’s and a HUGE sci-fi fantasy fan so when I saw this one, I wanted to read it right away. And I’m so glad I did because this story was absolutely AMAZING! One of my favorites this year for sure! It has an interesting world about planet exploration mixed with dinosaur-like creatures! I was absolutely captivated by the storyline because it had so much action and suspense to it that it left me on the edge of my seat for a majority of the story.
The great thing about this book was the characters, though. I absolutely adored Berit and Tom together. They were such opposites but they fit so well together. Berit was impulsive, emotional and stubborn while Tom was stoic, calm and possessive. I loved his possessiveness over Berit and how Berit had to come to terms with what Tom really meant to him.
In the end, this was a phenomenal story. I was drawn in right from the start and all the action kept my interesting throughout the story. Add to that, I just adored Berit and Tom’s journey through the planet AND their relationship. I’m glad this is the start of a new series because I can’t wait to read more in this world!
